
These three mystical theologians were at the heart of the developing Christ centeres theology which expressed a deepening understanding of the nature of the Godhead as Trinity, the Incarnation, the person of Jesus Christ and the place of God's creation in our redemption. Origen: "Perhaps the greatest interpreter of Scripture that Christianity has ever known." (mcGinn) Augustine: "The Bishop of Hippo did more than any other figure to shape the religious world of the West for more than a millenium." (McGinn) Maximus the Confessor: "probably the greatest systematic thinker of Eastern Christianity." (Williams)
